EXTRA HOT SQUID CURRY MASALA

How hot do you like your food? Because this is extra hot.

It’s holiday season and as some  refer it as a season to go bankrupt I’m here to minimize the food costs (at least) by sharing with you some yummy recipes using our daily ingredients available in our kitchens and local store to create some delicious holiday meals with a  tasty twist.

Crispy deep fried calamari is one of the most famous seafood meal and we can’t deny how delicious it is but well, It’s holiday season we need to eat a little different; every meal should look and taste like a feast. So, can we forget about deep fried calamari today and prepare some hot curry masala instead?

What I used

Squid /Calamari- 3

Ginger

Garlic- 4 cloves

Kothmir/parsley

Red Chillies-4 small

Salt

Black Pepper

Soy sauce

Fish masala

Turmeric powder

Curry powder

Lemon Juice

Red Onion-1

Green & Red bell pepper-1 each

Carrot-1

Tomatoes- 4

Preparation

Wash and cut the squid in medium size pieces (they do shrink once cooked)

Marinate the squid with a mixture of ginger & garlic paste, Lemon juice, kothmir, salt & black pepper. I did it overnight and kept it in a freezer. However you can marinate it  for at least 40 minutes, let the flavor soak in well .

Cooking Time:

In a preheated pan (medium heat) add the marinated squid cook to simmer, they will cook dry and shrink, be careful they don’t burn. Once cooked set them on the side and start curry preparations in the same pan.

Add some cooking oil(I used sunflower oil) in the pan, fry the chopped red onions to golden brown. Then add some fine chopped green & red bell pepper and the fine chopped carrots let them cook.

Before putting our squids, reduce the heat to low; add garlic & red chilies paste (I used four chilies and it was so hot, you may use one or two if you don’t it extra hot.) There after, add a small spoon full of curry powder, fish masala and half of turmeric powder then soy sauce. Stir as it cooks, add the squids we prepared followed by the blended tomatoes, let it cook to simmer. The cook time is between 8-10 minutes
